Horticulture



Typical duties at work will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining plant growth
  • Nursery work
  • Maintenance of decorative grass areas and paths
  • Tree planting and woodland maintenance
  • Maintenance of machinery


Overview

You will have block release to Block release to SRUC Elmwood Campus, usually 2 week blocks, 4 times a year.  You will be assessed via a mix of work place assessments, compilation of a portfolio of evidence and various short courses.

 

Programme Details

MA: Scottish Vocational Qualifications Level 2 (SCQF 5) Horticulture

MA: Scottish Vocational Qualifications Level 3 (SCQF 7) Parks and Open Spaces

The qualification is accredited through Scottish Qualifications Authority and awarded by Lantra.

The apprenticeship scheme runs over 4 years with attendance at SRUC Elmwood Campus, Cupar.

 

Personal Qualities, Skills and Qualifications

Ideally applicants will have studied National 4/5s (or General /Credit Standard Grades) in subjects such as Maths, English and Science, although these are not essential.

 

A mature outlook and willingness to work as part of a team are essential.

 

Must be physically able for the tasks involved in the job and be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers.
